About Us

something4. A unique business, in a unique location

Situated in the heart of the Midlands technology arc between Cambridge-Northampton-Milton Keynes, at an Art-Deco Aerodrome Business Park at Sywell, we bring together a unique combination of skills from four technology businesses merged together.

Unique experience

The something4 history dates back to 2000 when the business was formed by senior staff that raised venture capital funding and jumped ship from various areas of Barclays Bank, including the renowned technology innovation unit, EMG, where we started working on the Internet in 1994.

Choosy clients

Our first product, a white-label/own brand portal called MallAble, which launched in 2001, won immediate plaudits and was adopted by LetsBuyIt.com, Alliance & Leicester Bank and TelecomPlus, recently voted the fastest growing profitable company in Europe. Interestingly, the IT Director of TelecomPlus describes something4 as "the best kept technology secret" which accounts for why they remain a committed client to this day. These days, this platform is used by clients as wide-ranging as First Direct Bank, W H Smith, Air France and many more through a major client who is a leading magazine subscription seller.

Award winning

In 2003, something4 acquired all the assets of the award winning store-builder product ClickandBuild from Royal Bank of Scotland Group. So in addition to maintaining the websites of probably more SME's than any other software provider in the UK, overnight something4 became WorldPays largest partner - a significant milestone as WorldPay themselves are believed to be the worlds largest processor of online payments. Our strong relationship with WorldPay and many other payment providers continues to this day.

Leading Edge products

In 2005 our expansion continued through the acquisition of Cyrane, the supplier of "best of breed" Sales Order Processing software for the mail order and direct selling industry. After a significant investment in infrastructure and integration, we have successfully combined the capabilities of the Cyrane Merchant Server platform (ranging from warehouse to stock-control, call-centre, EPOS, CRM) with the in-house design, e-commerce and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) capabilities of something4.

In its new home, the Cyrane platform has therefore continued to build on its market-leading proposition and win many new clients, attracted by the software capability and our unique breadth of skills. With unparalleled customer loyalty for this remarkable system, and a clear road map of developments, the future for the Cyrane product and our current and future clients looks very rosy indeed - they are perfectly poised to leverage the growth in online and multi-channel trading.

A Complete Service

In 2007 something4 completed the acquisition of a specialist SEO company, netcallidus. Going beyond traditional "onsite" website optimisation techniques, the experts at netcallidus make complex online marketing strategies easy to implement for clients. By bringing our clients a in-house capability to, quite literally, double their businesses through online growth, it's a perfect addition to round off the services clients can access via something4.
